20 Aboriginal Apprentices by 2020
In November 2016, Whadjuk Noongar man Frank Mitchell made the ambitious pledge to create 20 aboriginal electrical apprenticeships by 2020.
"My apprenticeship represented a hand up, and opportunity to work hard and be self-determined. My life transformed because someone was willing to give me a chance. Now we need other business leaders to give us that same chance, so we can turn one opportunity into many"
It was this personal experience of Frank's that inspired us, the team at Wilco, to pay forward that same opportunity others.
Our goal, to provide 20 Aboriginal apprentices with the opportunity to learn valuable skills and earn the title of tradesmen, does more than award apprenticeships and put money in the bank. It creates pride and determination. Not only to the apprentices, but their families, children and communities. That is the kind of social change we want to inspire.
"The legacy of Australia's first people needs to be transformed. There continues to be a huge gap in equity between Australian people. I have learned that it's not what you look like or what you say, it's what you do that counts. Regardless of our circumstances, we all have something to give".

FISH was originally established to address the severe housing crisis in Indigenous communities throughout Australia.
Acknowledging Aboriginal people have a living spiritual, cultural, familial and social connection with country, FISH now seeks to bring healing to the spirit, heart, mind, body and land to help create healthy people and communities.
We aim to develop sustainable health through community based programmes providing learning experiences in life skills, personal development, and creative initiatives.
FISH aims to provide opportunities for Aboriginal people to share their wisdom and insights to the boarder community to teach people how to connect and care for each other and for country, whilst closing the gap and breaking generational cycles of poverty, trauma, and engagement with the justice system.

OUR MANAGEMENT TEAM
Director's Frank Mitchell and Tim Bidstrup work with an executive team combining a total of 100 years experience
in the construction industry across Australia.
Since his first exposure to the electrical industry as a 14 year old, Frank has aspired to bigger and better things. Joining Wilco electrical as an apprentice 6 months after the inception of the company, Frank’s technical skills and natural ability to manage and lead a team, has seen him rise through the ranks to the position of Company Director.
Frank’s experience liaising with a number of high profile National Clients to successfully manage the rollout of refurbishment and new construction sites across the state, has given him the skills and commercial acumen to successfully lead the company into the future. Frank is an Indigenous business leader and role model, Frank is looking forward to managing and developing relationships and opportunities to take Wilco into a bright future.
With over 25 years’ experience in large scale Electrical Construction in both the commercial and mining sector; Tim brings a wealth of experience in the management and delivery of projects safely and on time, while maintaining the highest quality standards.
Tim’s experience in all aspects of Project Management and HSEQ involved with the delivery of some of WA’s largest construction projects, including Fiona Stanley Hospital , BHP City Square and Coles RDC, gives him the skill set to work collaboratively with Clients and Consultants to achieve the best possible result for all stakeholders.
